Island of Usedom

Island of Sandy Beaches and Imperial Spas

They are strung along the island's beach like pearls on a necklace: Usedom's seaside resorts with their varied spa architecture and lovingly restored villas. Behind them a shady forest - it quickly becomes clear what makes the island a vacation paradise.

They are strung along the island's beach like pearls on a necklace: Usedom's seaside resorts with their varied spa architecture and lovingly restored villas. Behind them a shady forest - it quickly becomes clear what makes the island a vacation paradise.

Already at the end of the last century, the nobility and aristocracy warmed to the summer resort on the narrow land washed by the Baltic Sea and the backwaters. Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin were occasionally even allowed to welcome Wilhelm II, which is why they are still considered the "Imperial Spas" today.

The sunny island of Usedom is not only famous for its spa architecture. Nature and culture lovers, water sports enthusiasts and hikers will not miss out here either. Comfortable hotels and guesthouses provide rest and relaxation during the vacation. With the healing forest of Heringsdorf, Usedom has the first spa and healing forest in Europe. The mixture of sea and forest air creates a beneficial stimulating climate that can alleviate respiratory diseases and psychosomatic symptoms. Active recreation, on the other hand, is promised by the bike path running parallel to the beach and the green hinterland interwoven with blue lakes - a perfect destination for hikers.

The Most Beautiful Places on Usedom

Usedom Town

The small town gave its name to the island. For those interested in culture, historic city tours provide insights into the history of the town with its old town characterized by venerable town houses and the late Gothic Marienkirche. Boat lovers will find a place to dock at the Usedom harbor or can embark on a round trip by ferry from here.

Seaside Resort Ahlbeck

As one of the three imperial resorts, seaside vacationers will find their vacation paradise here. The pier Ahlbeck - as the oldest pier in Germany the landmark of Usedom and among other things scene in Loriot's film "Pappa ante Portas" - is one of the most worth seeing places of Ahlbeck. The longest beach promenade in Europe connects Ahlbeck with the imperial resorts of Bansin and Heringsdorf as well as Swinemünde on the Polish side of the island of Usedom and invites visitors to stroll or cycle along it.

Kaiserbad Bansin

Like its sister towns Ahlbeck and Heringsdorf, Bansin with its historic spa architecture has ideal conditions for bathers, beach vacationers and those interested in architecture. In addition to a day at the beach, the Bansin Tropical House provides entertainment for families - even on rainy days. Nature lovers are drawn to the surrounding lakes Schloonsee, Gothensee and the small Krebssee.

Baltic Resort Heringsdorf

The Baltic resort of Heringsdorf is the third of Usedom's imperial resorts - kilometers of sandy beaches and a beach promenade dotted with elegant villas give the resort its very special charm. Popular photo motifs are Germany's longest pier (over 500 meters) and possibly the world's largest beach chair in Heringsdorf: it can accommodate up to 90 people!

Baltic Resort Zinnowitz

You can also marvel at the seaside resort of Zinnowitz with its spa architecture and beach. As a family excursion, a visit to the iron and glass art gallery "Das verrückte Bügeleisenhaus" is also worthwhile. With its special collection, this small museum provides exciting insights into the solution-finding of days gone by.

The Achterland

The Achterland between Peenestrom, Stettiner Haff and Achterwasser with its green forests and numerous lakes like Gothensee and Kachliner See invites you to hike, bike and relax. An excursion to the castles of Stolpe, Mellenthin and Pudagla is rewarded with a view of the historic walls while enjoying a piece of cake or a medieval knight's buffet.

The Amber Baths

Where the "gold of the sea" - the amber typical for the Baltic Sea - is at home, there are the amber spas Koserow, Zempin, Ückeritz and Loddin named after it. White sandy beaches and a well-developed network of cycle paths provide plenty of variety during your stay and with a bit of luck you might even find an amber on the Baltic Sea beach.

Seaside Vacation

With its three imperial resorts and imposing spa architecture, Usedom is a dream destination for seaside vacationers. Miles of sandy beaches as well as the promenade stretching between them offer excellent conditions for Baltic Sea vacations.

Cycling Tours

On Usedom cycling becomes a special experience. Here you can comfortably explore the contrasting landscape of the island on your bike. Cycling tours like the Usedom-Rundweg, the family tour Zinnowitz - Trassenheide or the Stettiner Haff-Rundweg lead past the Baltic Sea and beaches, over bridges and through the green nature.

Hiking Trips

The white sandy beaches and wide dune landscape of Usedom invite you to go hiking. On the adventure tour through northern Usedom, the path leads past bays and through old fishing villages. On Usedom's peninsula Gnitz in the Achterwasser, on the other hand, the route leads through the nature reserve Südspitze Gnitz, where, with a bit of luck, impressive sea eagles can be spotted.

Sailing, Surfing & SUP - Water Sports on Usedom

If you want to explore the Baltic Sea by boat with so much sea, you can set sail with a rental boat and get to know the vacation paradise on your own. At many boat rental places this is possible after a short introduction even without a boat license. Alternatively, Usedom can also be explored from the water between Peenestrom and Achterwasser on one of the regular boat tours.

Excursions & Sights on Usedom

Usedom Island Nature Park Information Center

Usedom's Nature Park Information Center provides insights into the island's natural habitat - young and old guests alike learn a lot of interesting facts about the Baltic Sea, beach and dune habitats and their inhabitants. As one of the areas richest in birds in Germany, around 280 bird species can be observed on Usedom, such as white-tailed eagles, white storks, cranes and gray herons.

HTM Historical-Technical Museum Peenemünde

The exhibition at the Historisch-Technisches Museum Peenemünde is dedicated to the history of the Peenemünde Army Experimental Station and the early history of space travel. Where the world's first rocket was launched into space in 1942, visitors interested in technology can now trace one of the most spectacular, but at the same time one of the most dangerous technical breakthroughs of the 20th century.

Butterfly Farm Trassenheide

Europe's largest butterfly farm is a tropical paradise on 5,000 square meters. Around 2,500 free-flying exotic butterflies amaze children and nature lovers here. Those who come to the farm in the morning can experience how butterflies hatch in the so-called dollhouse.

Diving Gondola Zinnowitz

Vacationers can take a special kind of underwater walk in the diving gondola in Zinnowitz. It goes a full four meters below the surface of the water. The perfect opportunity for children and adults to get to know the underwater world of the Baltic Sea up close!

Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio Museum

For art lovers and nature lovers, the Atelier Otto Niemeyer-Holstein is one of the special attractions on the island of Usedom: a refuge where art and nature meet directly. The former estate of the painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein fascinates with its more than 200 plants, which fit into the overall picture of the sculpture garden, as well as the whimsical remains of a 200-year-old shipwreck.
