Island of Poel

Rest and Relaxation in the Midst of Pristine Nature

The island of Poel, located in the Wismar Bay, welcomes travelers with a natural landscape and a lot of originality. Perhaps it is due to the narrow bridge causeway that connects the island with the mainland that Poel has been able to preserve its pure nature. There are no colorful promenades or long promenades here, but endless, lush green meadows interrupted by dead-straight fields.

Between the bright yellow rapeseed blossoms, vermilion roofs suddenly rise into the bright blue sky and tranquil villages along the way welcome guests. The fine powdery sand invites you to rest and relax with the gentle sound of the sea in the background and the Baltic Sea promises cooling on hot days. Here you can still watch seabirds breeding and majestic swans use Poel as a refuge on their journey south.

A vacation on the island of Poel is also considered a real insider tip for water sports enthusiasts. The main village Kirchdorf is directly accessible from the Baltic Sea by a fjord-like inlet for boats with a draught of up to two meters. And in Timmendorf not only the modernized marina but also the lighthouse built in 1871 welcomes water sports enthusiasts, anglers and boat excursion guests. In addition, you can go water skiing, kite surfing or diving here.

From Timmendorf to Kirchdorf: These are Poel's Most Beautiful Places

Kirchdorf

The largest village on the island of Poel, Kirchdorf, with its museum of local history, is an interesting destination for all those interested in culture. Here tourists can learn about the historical development of the island, whose former castle fell victim to the 30-year war. Leisure time captains can moor their own motorboat on site or take a boat trip with one of the excursion boats.

Timmendorf

Timmendorf 's 21-meter-high lighthouse is one of the most famous landmarks on the island of Poel and guides ships and boats safely into the fishing harbor. In the immediate vicinity, a fine sandy beach section awaits families, bathers and water sports enthusiasts with opportunities for swimming, surfing or pedal boating.

Black Bush

With its direct seaside location and white sandy beach , the small village of Schwarzer Busch is the perfect starting point for a day of swimming fun in the Baltic Sea. Families will appreciate the shallow water spots on the beach. A children's playground and a miniature golf course provide additional entertainment during the family vacation.

Gollwitz

The low bathing water at the beach of Gollwitz is also child-friendly. Here you can relax and splash around in the water. If you like, you can get an insight into the biodiversity of the bird sanctuary island Langenwerder north of Gollwitz during a guided tour of the island.
