Cinema, Scene & Trends

They are politicians and they are East Germans. The fall of the Berlin Wall and the time that followed left clear traces in their lives and still shape the actions of the four women today: Anke Domscheit-Berg (Die Linke), Yvonne Magwas (CDU), Frauke Petry (former AfD) and Manuela Schwesig (SPD) belong to different political camps, but their everyday lives present similar challenges: Balancing career and family, power and powerlessness, successes, mistakes and exhaustion. Director Sabine Michel virtually puts the politicians on the couch in front of the camera. You can get closer to them than ever before and still maintain a critical distance.

"The story Michel tells is universal, it is about the survival of women in politics, about the relentlessness, the harshness, the constant observation, without the protagonists being glorified as heroines." DER SPIEGEL

We agree and are delighted to welcome director Sabine Michel to Thomsdorf for a film discussion.
