There's a lot going on in and around the Müritzeum at night. But who exactly is out and about and who is flying through the air? Insects are the main focus of the late-night event.
Some love mosquitoes, others always fly towards the light - but who exactly is flying around the Müritzeum garden at night? Together with Dr. Thiele from the Entomological Society, we want to find out in a night-time trapping event. On Friday evening, 19.07.2024, the guests of this event will start at 20:30 with a short guided tour through the current special exhibition to get in the mood for the nocturnal buzzing species. The tour then moves on to the various traps in the garden, which are used to catch nocturnal flying insects, especially moths. Dr. Thiele will then identify the six-legged creatures caught in the "net" and is sure to have a lot to say about each species. Incidentally, the bat detector can also be used to listen to the bats, as they are also out and about at night.
Catching bats at night using a light trap is part of the ongoing "Green Roof Habitat" project at the Müritzeum. With this project, the NatureExperienceCenter wants to draw attention to the importance of ecosystems in the city and is currently investigating which plants, insects and other animals use this extraordinary habitat. You can find more information about the project on the Müritzeum website or in the exhibition on the roof of the House of 1000 Lakes.
If you also want to become a night owl and find out what is still flying around in the dark, the best thing to do is to call the Müritzeum on 03991 633 680. The night-time excursion costs EUR 7.50 for children and EUR 15 for adults.
