The Greifswald Street Art Festival is taking place again. The main theme this year is the life and work of Caspar David Friedrich.
When the cans rattle and paint is in the air, Urban Art MV e.V. is not far away! The Greifswald Street Art Festival is taking place again. This year in memory of Caspar David Friedrich! Around 30 artists will give Greifswald a new coat of paint in the last week of August. House facades throughout the city will be painted in honor of Friedrich, who was born in Greifswald. The invited artists are invited to interpret the life's work and creations of Caspar David Friedrich in the young art form of street art. Urban Art MV e.V. also offers a varied program for the whole family. During the week, there will be an open talk and a street art tour, a graffiti workshop and a film evening. These events will take place in the courtyard of the Klex youth center at Lange Straße 14 and are free of charge for anyone interested. We would like to encourage participation! To explore the interfaces between Caspar David Friedrich and young art forms and have a great time.
We want to illuminate the phases of Caspar David's life and stylistic devices and transport them into our art form of street art. In addition to painting the walls, there will be numerous public events.
On Tuesday, a workshop will be held to give an insight into graffiti and how to use a can. Anyone who wants to get involved can try it out here!
On Wednesday there will be a movie night. We will be showing the film "Grenzbiet" by Matti Cordewinus. It sheds light on the personalities behind the graffiti. A group of graffiti artists travel through Eastern European countries. In this film, clichés are broken and people are drawn.
On Thursday, we would like to explore in a panel discussion why Caspar David Friedrich did not achieve worldwide success during his lifetime and why this phenomenon often occurs with visual artists.
On Friday, we invite you to go on a bike tour to marvel at all the painted walls. Participants can expect personal contact with the artists. They will tell us how they responded to Friedrich's work in their artwork and how they would like to interpret it. Afterwards, we invite you to linger and talk together.
