A humorous organ concert with 4 hands and 4 feet, where the pipes dance!
"The organ dances - waltz, tango, boogie and co.". A humorous organ concert in which the pipes dance can be experienced on Sunday, August 11 at 17 in the town church of St. Georg Grabow. On this afternoon, the large Friese organ (built in 1885) can be seen and heard in a lively and humorous concert with 4 hands and 4 feet as well as a simultaneous video transmission of the organ playing system on a large screen in the church.
Visitors can expect original dance music for pipe organs from 1500 to the present day. Even in the early days of organ music, dances were composed for the organ alongside sacred compositions. The first organ dances are already recorded in the first organ music books from the 14th century. Organ dance music was also composed in monasteries during the Baroque period and the famous Toggenburg house organ dances were created in Switzerland in the 19th century. Today, this tradition is continued with new organ pieces in swing and jazz style. Concertgoers can expect dances, marches, waltzes, tangos, polkas, country dances, swing, blues, cha cha cha, boogie and co. by Elias Nikolaus Ammerbach, Giovanni Morandi, Elsbeth Forrer, Thomas P. Westendorf, Julien Bret, Robin Dinda, Carsten Lenz and others.
Iris and Carsten Lenz are organists at the large and important Skinner organ in the Saalkirche in Ingelheim am Rhein. Since the coronavirus pandemic, they have performed at several highly acclaimed Protestant ZDF television services. They have played numerous concerts in many European countries and in the USA with their four-hand concert programs. In addition, they have released around 30 CD recordings and 3 video DVDs as well as participating in other radio and TV productions.
The musicians add: "We already played a concert on this beautiful organ a few years ago. With its versatile and colorful sound, it is ideal for our program of cheerful and lively organ dances. Approximately 10 minutes before the concert begins, we will give a short organ demonstration as a small pre-program, giving visitors an insight into how the organ works and its sound possibilities."
Including video transmission of the organ playing system on a screen.
