A portrait of the composer in songs on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Thilo von Westernhagen's death
Monika von Westernhagen (mezzo-soprano), Warnfried Altmann (saxophone), Oliver Vogt (piano)
Thilo von Westernhagen lived from 1950 to 2014 and was a pianist and composer. He lived and worked in Dönkendorf for many years.
He played the classical repertoire on the piano as well as entire improvisation evenings, which earned him the nickname "The German Keith Jarrett". As a jazz pianist, he has worked with artists such as Charlie Mariano, Joachim Kühn and, since 1998, with Warnfried Altmann, resulting in impressive recordings.
Accordingly, his compositions cover an equally broad spectrum of styles. In addition to composing over 30 film scores, for example for the Schimanski crime scenes, he wrote several full-length operas, three major oratorios and numerous songs.
The portrait concert, which is intended to commemorate his work and at the same time his death ten years ago, will primarily feature his song compositions, settings of poems by Andreas Gryphius, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Friedrich Hebbel, William Blake, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and others.
