Guided tour with Thoralf Weiß | Head of Arboretum | Greifswald, participation: 7 euros
The former fortress ramparts have been largely removed and turned into pleasant walks by planting trees. A wide view from the rampart delights the eye. It is surrounded by a wide moat with bright, deep water on which tame swans play. ... where the avenue ends, you enter the so-called English grounds, which consist of lawns, flower beds and various groups of different types of wood and are laid out with taste.

The Greifswald Stadtwall is an extremely interesting historical park with a varied history of use, which is still clearly visible today in the trees and shrubs. Since the end of the 18th century, rows of trees have been planted on the former fortification ring and an English garden has been created. The old Greifswald Botanical Garden was extended in 1830 from its small original site behind the main university building to include the grounds of the academic fruit tree nursery in the moat. After the railroad station was built in 1863, Paepke-Platz, the gardens in front of the Lyceum and around the grammar school and Müntergrund were laid out. Between 1877 and 1885, at the suggestion of botany professor Julius Münter (1815-1885), a dendrological nature trail with rare trees and shrubs was created there.
On a tour of the Greifswald city wall, you can discover a variety of interesting trees and shrubs, especially in the area of the old botanical garden, which have an eventful history to tell.
