A new experience of Bach
"It should not be called Bach, but the sea!" Beethoven's famous bon mot exactly describes the ten concerts that are particularly inspired by the work of Johann Sebastian Bach this festival summer.
A spatial and sound experience: a project close to the heart of this year's prizewinner in residence, the SIGNUM saxophone quartet, will be performed in the monumental St. Nikolai Church. Spatially and sonically distributed across three organs, a string ensemble and four saxophones, "The Art of Fugue" fills the church space in a new way. The dramaturgically sophisticated lighting design and the artists' movements in the space create an impressive, unique total work of art and open up a new perspective on Bach's artistic exploration of a single fugue theme.
