Concert program for brass quintet and organ around the Romantics Caspar David Friedrich, Anton Bruckner and Richard Strauss.
The year 2024 is full of Romantic jubilees. Two jubilarians stand out in particular: Anton Bruckner and Caspar David Friedrich. Both are among the epitomes of Romanticism par excellence in their respective fields.
Manfred Schlenker, who recently passed away at the age of 97, dealt with Caspar David Friedrich in great depth in his last composition. He also created this work in retrospect of his own time in Greifswald. The parallels between Bruckner and Schlenker, but also between Schlenker and Friedrich, make him the ideal link between the two great jubilarians. In 2024, we also commemorate the 75th anniversary of Richard Strauss' death. He marks the end of Romanticism. His early work "Der Abend" sets Friedrich Schiller's poem of the same name to music for 16-part a cappella choir. It is very rarely performed due to the high demands it places on the choir. The studied organist, church musician and renowned choral conductor Florian Benfer (*1984) has created a congenial arrangement of this work for romantic organ and brass quintet, especially for our ensemble.
The work by Manfred Schlenker will be accompanied by a color brochure with prints of the pictures.
