Literature

"To avoid disappointment, Annegret isn't doing anything right now. Walter interrupts her and gives her three eggs, the outermost fingernail torn, but no sign of complaint.

Juli Katz, born in 1990, works as a freelance journalist in and from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and writes for national and regional media, mostly about science, politics, culture and work - preferably in rural areas. She moved to Greifswald in 2019 for work.
She stayed because of her dog and chicken and has lived in the village in Vorpommern for over two years.

She won the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Literature Prize in 2024 with her text "Annegret wants to go to Chicago":
"To avoid disappointment, Annegret isn't doing anything right now. Walter interrupts her and gives her three eggs, the outermost fingernail torn, but no sign of complaint. Walter no longer wants to prove anything in life. Annegret sorts the eggs into a box. Just three? she asks, and Walther nods towards the kitchen table, their shared place in a house in a village in a federal state on a Pvc tablecloth. the two don't look at each other, they never do. "
This is how the everyday, yet somehow bizarre story of Annegret and Walter begins. The author shares a place of residence with her heroes: she lives in a village in Vorpommern, where she looks after chickens, dogs and bees. A region that makes you feel frugal, but which can also stimulate wanderlust.
