Two ballets by Ralf Dörnen
Rain clears the air. Rain cleanses. After the rain (usually) comes the sun. In the very poetic "Rain Sonata" No. 1 in G major op. 78 by Johannes Brahms, the themes of letting go, giving up, farewell and new beginnings resonate. Brahms himself quotes his pieces "Regenlied" and "Nachklang", which gave the piece its title, as well as the themes for the new ballet evening by ballet director Ralf Dörnen. In the second part of the evening, you will experience "The Juliet Letters" to the album of the same name by Elvis Costello and
the Brodsky Quartet. The individual pieces, all fictitious letters from the musicians to Juliet Capulet, provide the basis for the idea that complete strangers get to read the most personal feelings in letters and also provide answers to many existential questions. Just as rain clears the air, thoughts also clear when we write.
