Quo vadis, Europe? - The challenge posed by illiberal, identitarian and nationalist currents
Quo vadis, Europe? (where are you going?) - The challenge posed by illiberal, identitarian and ethnic currents and their consequences for the future of Europe and our partners in the world
In the last 10 years, political forces have been gaining ground in elections in Europe, but also in the USA and Israel, which oppose the pluralistic constitutional democracy based on the inalienable fundamental rights of the individual with a different model in which fundamental rights are linked to external characteristics such as ethnicity, social status, health, economic performance and sexual orientation. These parties place a higher value on one's own nationality than on fundamental human rights under the constitution.
What does it mean for us, each and every one of us, who help shape this process with our vote and our civic behavior? What does it mean for our society(ies) in the German, European and global context if parties that set these priorities are involved in power or even form the government?
The lecture aims to shed light on these developments and their consequences .
