At the end of the PUTBUS FESTSPIELE, the Vorpommern Philharmonic Orchestra offers a promenade concert "Under the Italian Sun", an entertaining Italianita with the ensemble's soloists.
As the orchestra of the Vorpommern Theatre, it is an integral part of musical theater and ballet. Its repertoire includes opera, operetta and musicals.
As a concert orchestra, it performs nine philharmonic concerts and numerous special concerts each season. In order to give children and young people access to music, musicians visit schools as an "orchestra mobile", pupils attend concert rehearsals and joint projects are created with schools. Members of the orchestra also perform at various chamber music events.
Large-scale choral and orchestral works are regularly performed as part of cooperation projects with the Szczecin Opera Orchestra (Poland) and the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
General Music Director Golo Berg led the Philharmonic Orchestra from 2012 to 2017. His successor since the 2017/18 season is Florian Csizmadia. Highlights of recent seasons have included a series of performances of Britten's "War Requiem" with performances in Greifswald, Szczecin, Klaipėda (Lithuania) and Berlin Cathedral, as well as a performance of Verdi's Requiem. In recent years, the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven and Jean Sibelius have been on the program of the Philharmonic Concerts in cyclical performances. Recently, there has been an increased focus on baroque repertoire.
