Poetry slam evening in the park | Issue # 3
As part of the Literature Week 2025
Wednesday, June 11, 2025 | 8 p.m.
Rhododendron Park Graal-Müritz

A poetry slam is a fascinating contest of linguistic virtuosity in which performers bring their own texts to the stage in a tight time frame - usually five to seven minutes. These works range from lyrical poetry and narrative prose to rhythmic spoken word or biting satire. The magic of slam lies in its performative power: with polished language, nuanced intonation and expressive gestures, the boundaries between literature and theater art merge. The audience, as a sovereign jury, decides the triumph of the evening by applause or awarding points, lending the format an electrifying spontaneity.

Founded in Chicago in 1986 by Marc Smith, who catapulted poetry from elite salons into the vibrant world of bars and stages, the poetry slam has conquered the world - from Berlin to New York to Graal-Müritz. It is a melting pot of ideas where personal reflections, social points and linguistic experiments come together. The slam opens doors for every voice, demands creativity and rewards boldness, making it a unique space for cultural dialog.

We invite you to the third edition on June 11, 2025 from 8 pm in the Rhododendron Park in Graal-Müritz. It will once again be an evening where words fly, thoughts spark and poets vie for the audience's favor. Let yourself be carried away by this celebration of language - an experience that will ignite the mind and heart in equal measure. This is where profundity meets tact, when linguistic acrobats artfully knot the red thread - and still rhyme the nail on the head.

Performing are:

Monika Mertens (Hamburg)
Monika Mertens has been a fixture on poetry slam and reading stages in German-speaking countries since 2012. In 2013, she started her own business as a part-time artist and has been working full-time as a spoken word artist since 2019. Her versatility, eloquence and stage presence make her an indispensable voice on the scene.

Pauline Prigge (Hanover)
Pauline Prigge, born in 1998, took to the poetry slam stage for the first time in 2021 and reached the final in 2023 in her first participation in a national championship. Her texts are characterized by great openness, emotional depth and social relevance. With unsparing honesty, she addresses topics such as sexism, toxic relationships and other socially taboo subjects - sometimes angrily, sometimes sadly, sometimes sarcastically. In doing so, she provides insights into her own fears, doubts and hopes and takes the audience on an intense emotional journey.

Matti Linke (Hanover)
Matti Linke has been a fixture on the German-language poetry slam scene since 2016. He is originally from Celle and has lived in his adopted home of Hanover since 2022. In 2022, he became state poetry slam champion for Lower Saxony and Bremen. In 2023, he won the state champion title in the team discipline together with Theresa Sperling.

Nils Prior (Oldenburg)
Nils Prior studies German and computer science in Oldenburg. His contributions are mostly rhymed, often humorous, occasionally insightful and always surprising. With his pointed style, he regularly provides entertaining and thought-provoking moments on the stages of northern Germany.

Ole Lucoje (Potsdam)
Ole Müller, known on stage as Ole Lucoje, is a poetry slammer from Brandenburg. He comes from Ludwigsfelde and now lives in nearby but much more picturesque Potsdam, where he studied European Media Studies. He began his career on Berlin slam stages. In his prosaic, everyday texts, he tries to distract the audience from their own dreariness with his own dreariness. In April 2024, he won the Berlin-Brandenburg Poetry Slam Championships.

Moderator: Dominik Bartels (Koserow, Usedom)
Publisher (Blaulicht Verlag), author, comedian, presenter and arte web slam winner 2011
