as part of the CDF 2024 salon series
In their short lecture, Merle-Maleen Dierks and Henry Philipp Uzulis, students at the Institute of Fennistics and Scandinavian Studies, will provide a deeper insight into the salons of Scandinavia. The literary salon of the 19th century was an important cultural, creative and educational institution throughout Europe. Under the direction of literary women, those present could give free rein to their artistic impulses in a (mostly) cozy atmosphere. In their salon in Uppsala, the Swedish salonières Mala Silfverstolpe (1782-1861) and Thekla Knös (1815-1880) developed a space dedicated to art, which also contributed significantly to the political education of visitors.
