Exhibition in memory of the painter Louise Lange-Kassow
Exhibition period: 09.03.2024 - 16.06.2024
Auguste Louise Elise Lange, née Kassow. She said of herself that she was "[...] a real Burdirn ut Meckelborg". But she is more than that: as a painter and storyteller, she is a woman of the 20th century who is to be remembered in this exhibition.
Born on March 22, 1878 in Cordshagen, a Mecklenburg farming village not far from Rehna, she grew up on her parents' farm with her siblings. From the age of ten, she went to school in Schwerin, where she took painting lessons with Ludwig Dettmann. Her path led her on to Berlin to Lovis Corinth's studio for painting and sculpture. She drew well and thus won the artist's respect.
In 1909, she married her husband Georg Lange, became the mother of four children and moved to Hamburg. Louise Lange-Kassow, as she often called herself, remained loyal to her native Mecklenburg throughout her life. Her correspondence with Richard Wossidlo and perhaps also her wonderful paintings and drawings are well known.
The exhibition was curated by Olaf Both (research associate, Mecklenburg Foundation).
