Holy Harp
The music of Lisa Canny and her band ranges from Irish tradition to hip hop. Over 2 million online streams already suggest that Lisa's idiosyncratic mix of styles works, but it is her energetic stage presence that gives the program its full impact.
Lisa Canny grew up in the north-west of Ireland, in County Mayo, and her first musical contact was with the traditional music of the country. She later studied at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in Limerick, a training ground for young musicians. She is a seven-time All Ireland champion on the harp and banjo.
But the multi-instrumentalist and songwriter has constantly developed musically, giving space to other styles and thus creating a unique synthesis of the arts. What she is able to play with Ireland's national instrument, the harp, for example, amazes even experts. After listening to Lisa's harp playing, you will see this instrument, which is generally associated with solemn sounds, with completely different eyes.
Whether it's a hip-hoppy original composition or a cover of an Ed Sheeran song, Lisa always delivers musical perfection. And anyone who can't imagine how a banjo fits into this musical structure will know after a Lisa Canny concert. And so it's easy to understand why Lisa was named one of the "Top Ten Irish acts you don't want to miss" by BBC America.
