18,000 km around the world by bike in 161 days

25 years ago, Markus Möller and Ronald Prokein ride around the world on bicycles - and thus enter the Guinness
book records. Almost 18,000 kilometers over asphalt, stone, mud and sand tracks. In 161 days, faster than
anyone before them. At a time when smartphones, YouTube channels and social media are still the future. Plagued by mosquitoes, fever and pain, the then 22-year-olds crossed three
continents completely "analog" and on their own, sleeping in the open air, in posh hostels and poorhouses, in churches and fire stations. They get into scuffles and police custody, talk to ambassadors and prostitutes, ministers and gangsters, are pampered and robbed. In short: an extreme race. A test of material, strength and nerves on the verge of despair and an escape from a childhood full of ridicule and humiliation. But the shadows of the
past are still there ...
Rostock-based writer and photographer Markus Möller uses authentic images and Hi-8 videos to tell of a nostalgic adventure, sympathetically overtaken by a world that is spinning ever faster.
A piece of contemporary history and a special departure that is honest and pure, grounding, stirring and resonant.
