Opening of the special exhibition in the 3 Königinnen Palais

Juli Schupa's "concrete artworks" are pictures made of, on and with concrete. Inspired by street art and architecture, the focus is on the subtle material in interaction with the motifs.

The artworks are an expression of the exploration of the aesthetics of contradiction: the tension between hardness and fragility, between raw materiality and artistic sensitivity. The focus is not on the obvious, but on the hidden, which is brought to light through a new examination. Concrete, with its rough surface and ability to bear the marks of time, embodies this idea. In the artworks, the material is emphasized and at the same time transformed in order to make fine details and emotional depth visible. This creates a contradictory harmony between the original and the designed, inviting the viewer to engage with the aesthetics of the unexpected and the past.

The works play with classical notions of painting. In the interplay of simplicity, texture, the durability of the material and the motifs, there is an appreciation of what goes beyond the superficial. The properties of concrete become a metaphor for the unpolished in life, which nevertheless or precisely because of this has its own aesthetics.
