"Libuda develops a sonic pull that congenially accompanies and continues the feelings, pain and love, the ideal worlds and real constraints."

Jaspar Libuda uses all the possibilities of the double bass between bowed lyrical passages up to the highest registers, percussive, plucked chords, develops beautiful themes and motifs, alternates rhythmically and harmonically between melodious and more exotic terrain, oscillates between dense sonorities and transparent passages and allows for silence as well as luminous, powerful soundscapes. Libuda's pieces develop a pull that is hard to resist."
Olga Hochweis, Deutschlandradio Kultur
"Libuda develops a sonic pull that congenially accompanies and continues the feelings, pain and love, the ideal worlds and real constraints."
Eva-Maria Magel, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
"As a composer and bassist, Libuda demonstrates a remarkable feel for melody, song structure and sound."

The combination of virtuoso double bass artistry with electro-acoustic music.

The music of Berlin composer and double bassist Jaspar Libuda is located at the interface of neoclassical music, film music and soundscapes with a mixture of fixed arrangements and improvisation. He is known for his sensitive and virtuoso bow playing on the double bass.

Jaspar Libuda's compositions are classical soundscapes, musical stories without words, a declaration of love to melody and the deep feelings it can evoke. A combination of virtuoso double bass artistry and electro-acoustic music. Using a custom-built five-string double bass with a high C string, loop station and live electronics, Jaspar Libuda creates an entire ensemble in front of his audience's ears. Layers surfaces and rhythms on top of each other. Weaves melodies and silence into a dense world of sound, simultaneously melancholy and full of joie de vivre. A state of suspension between styles and genres. A borderline between classical, neo-classical, jazz, rock, pop and minimal music. With timbres reminiscent of cello, percussion, guitar and oud. More than 100 compositions have been written in recent years. Compositions for double bass solo, for the Jaspar Libuda Trio with guitarist Florian Segelke and drummer Sven Tappert as well as the duo Jaspar Libuda + Daniel Moheit. Compositions for an imaginary movie with bright and dark themes.

In 2006, the composer founds the Jaspar Libuda Trio. In the same year, the EP Alambic is released, as well as his first double bass solo album Gideon in 2008. The first trio album Aquarius followed in 2009, which received the highest rating from Kulturradio RBB. In 2010 he founded the duo Jaspar Libuda + Daniel Moheit and in 2012 his own label cinematic bass music. 2013 sees the release of the first duo album Alarm auf der Zeitwacht and the second trio album Jahrtausendgänger, produced by Kulturradio vom RBB and broadcast on ARD Radio Festival, among others. Between 2013 and 2019, Jaspar Libuda worked on commissioned compositions and film music, including for RBB, Kulturingenieure and Von Vietinghoff Filmproduktion, had his five-string double bass built, set up his own studio and worked on new albums, which were released in 2020. In addition to his national and international activities as a double bassist and composer of his own projects, Jaspar Libuda is involved in numerous concert and CD productions by other artists and labels such as the RIAS Kammerchor, Nils Frahm, Jan Böttcher, Klez.e, Greg Haines, Ali Al-Asi, Wasteland Green and Orlando (Roland Kunz), Kook Berlin/New York, Ateliermusik Hamburg, Loob Musik, Sonic Pieces. Musical engagements have taken him to the Jazzunits Festival, Jazz in den Ministergärten, Rudolstadt Festival, Siebenklang Festival, Magdeburger Songtage, Trinitatiskirche Warsaw, Greifswald Cathedral, among others.
Jaspar Libuda's second solo album Die Geburt der stillen Farben will be officially released in 2020 by cinematic bass music, as will his third solo album Das Buch der Träume, Band 1.
