EXHIBITION SERIES ON A SMALL SCALE
The tisch - café, coworking space and event area in Schwerin - has been showing the exhibition series IM KLEINEN RAHMEN since March 2025. Visitors to the café are greeted by contemporary art on a wall area of over six meters as they enter. At a time when encountering and engaging with art seems essential and deserves a special place in our daily lives, the tisch creates a place where art meets everyday life, color values enrich the coffee, plays of form inspire work and artistic intentions flow into conversations. Every visit is a personal gain.
The exhibition series IM KLEINEN RAHMEN was initiated by art historian and curator Annekathrin Siems and illustrator and art director Karen Obenauf.
The second exhibition in the IM KLEINEN RAHMEN series shows works by the artist Ulrich Bittmann from Mustin. His painterly approach resembles an archaeological approach. He searches for what already exists in a pool of infinite possibilities and searches for the buried form in the picture ground. He unearths it from the paint by removing layers - just as an archaeologist removes layers - applying the pictorial levels layer by layer. You could say that Ulrich Bittmann uncovers the pictures for the viewer, brings them to light, makes them visible. The impulses for his works are diverse: real events, everyday life, models, letters, photographs or even the painterly moment itself. It is the dance between figuration and abstraction that contributes to the special appeal of Ulrich Bittmann's painting. He turns us into seekers and entices us to take a closer look.
Due to the dense, collaged hanging of the works, the exhibition at tisch very impressively conveys the described basic tenor of Ulrich Bittmann's work.
Let yourself be surprised and get involved with art IN A SMALL FRAME at tisch.
ULLRICH BITTMANN
STATEMENT
"Painting tells stories.
My picture stories are created intuitively and deal with human sensitivities. They are based on my observations and experiences and reflect my personal view of the world.
Paintings are made of color.
I am less interested in depicting reality than in how the process of applying paint, the language of form and composition create their own reality and pictorial meaning. A special challenge is the search for forms that surprise me and the viewer and open up new perspectives.
What emerges is complex, emotional and never unambiguous - just like my perception of the world itself, in which simple answers and clear categorizations are rare."
