"Day of the white gold"
On "White Gold Day", you will be transported back to the good old days of salt transportation at the historic salt port of Dändorf. Whether it's a show, puppet theater, culinary delights or live music ... we look forward to your visit and a colorful hustle and bustle around the white gold.
The history of the Old Salt Road
The main route of salt transport, however, was to the Grand Ducal Salt Warehouse in Wismar. The salt was filled into sacks and shipped downstream on the Recknitz to the mouth of the river at Damgarten and on to Dändorf via the Ribnitzer See. Here, the salt was reloaded onto carts, driven to Dierhagen beach, loaded onto cage boats and taken to the sailors waiting off the coast, who then shipped the salt cargo to Wismar.
In 2012, the historic salt harbour and the Old Salt Road in Dändorf were lovingly renovated and invite visitors and water hikers to linger.
