Baroque music from the Caribbean, the Mediterranean region, the Netherlands and England
Seafaring: a central theme in the 17th and 18th centuries. On the one hand, it was a means of trading and a glorified place of longing for many adventurers, but on the other hand it also stood for danger: armed conflicts, raids and storms were not uncommon and contributed to the creation of myths on land. The "matelots" (sailors) became popular theatrical figures in Baroque France, buccaneers and pirates mingled in the action, musical storms were composed and songs told of adventurous events and romances on the high seas.
The Los Temperamentos ensemble was founded in 2009 and focuses primarily on music from the 17th and 18th centuries. Under the direction of Colombian cellist and arranger Néstor Fabián Cortés Garzón, the group specializes in rediscovering and making audible the relationships between the seemingly contrasting worlds of Latin America and Europe in Baroque music. In their thematically varied programs, the artists combine different styles, composers and continents and repeatedly show anew the liveliness and immense richness of color behind what is supposedly simply called "early music" today.
