Guided tour with Ralf Schmidt | biologist | NABU Nordvorpommern e.V., participation: 10 euros

The naturally wooded Tribohmer Bachtal, a small side valley of the extensive glacial valley with the Recknitz, was formed after the last ice age. It is part of a large nature reserve (NSG) along its entire length. The old copper beeches and pedunculate oaks with their natural wealth of caves are particularly characteristic.

Walkers are presented with a diverse forest landscape that is unique to our region. The species-rich world of songbirds is particularly characteristic every spring. The merry month of May is the best time to listen to them in the forest. Under the biological guidance of Ralf Schmidt (NABU Nordvorpommern), you will listen to the birdsong in the Tribohmer Bachtal and cross their natural forest habitat on a 3-hour hike. Some of the forest bird species such as chaffinches, warblers, tits, robins, wrens and chiffchaffs can also be found in our villages and near-natural city gardens. Despite the greening deciduous trees, some songbirds can be spotted in the forest with binoculars. The NABU "Birdlife" app helps with bird identification.

Chaffinch and titmouse are just some of the typical bird species in the spring forest of Vorpommern. But the atmospheric calls of the wood warbler and lesser spotted flycatcher can also be expected in the Tribohmer Bachtal now that the real migratory birds have returned in May.

The Tribohmer Bachtal valley, which appears very unspoilt and natural, was used by humans many centuries ago. Even today, the stream, which is characterized by small meanders, still shows clear traces of the former pond farming by the Cistercian monks. Between Tribohm and Gruel there were three watermills with large ponds in the Middle Ages, but these have long since ceased to function and have been reclaimed by woodland. In addition, the beaver has now made itself at home in the nature reserve and dammed up an impressive pond with its dam.

If possible, bring your own binoculars, waterproof footwear and warm clothing. A smartphone with the free NABU "Vogelwelt" app is also recommended.
