Picturesque balancing acts
The current exhibition by Stralsund-based artist Grit Piolka reveals a resting and raging sea of colors, shapes and sensations. Born in Stollberg in 1963 and raised in the Ore Mountains, she has lived in various places throughout Germany. She has now been anchored in the city on the Sound for almost 10 years. She has been passionate about art since childhood, so studying painting and graphics at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle/Saale was a logical step. Since then, Grit Piolka has been working as a freelance artist. Illustration and teaching assignments also complement her creative repertoire.
Piolka's paintings are inspired by the everyday things that surround her: Nature in flora and fauna, people, objects, architecture. However, they are always expressively captured and oscillate between abstraction and representationalism. On the one hand as an intense intoxication of the emotional world, on the other as a contemplative observation of what she has experienced, her paintings speak volumes of an impressive perception that pushes outwards and reveals itself in a way that fills her being. The exhibition "Balancing Acts" presents a powerfully resonant painterly oeuvre that strikes a quiet note and exudes a lasting pull.
