From 6.10.2023 to 08.10. 2023 the 1st fair 'Fangfrisch' for applied arts will take place in Wismar.

The fresh platform for contemporary applied arts wants to present a wide range of the outstanding works from the workshops of the country and beyond in the northeast of Germany - in Wismar at the Old Port - from October 6 to 8, 2023. We would like to offer craftsmen, designers, freelance, visual and applied artists, who are active in the field of applied art with highly qualified craftsmanship and creative experimentation, a worthy setting to present their work to an art-interested, open-minded audience. Applied art takes processes from traditional crafts and translates them in high quality into contemporary, often timeless forms. Perhaps time must be devoted to this translation process in order to clarify what distinguishes applied art: It is simply not enough to be good at the craft in question - to repeat what has been done exactly the same way for a hundred years and should not and must not be done differently. With the spirit of experimentation and innovation of applied art, the knowledge and skills of the old crafts, which might have been lost, could be preserved. This knowledge of the crafts is a knowledge that is priceless in its fundamentals. Who knows how a fabric works, or how clay is made to take shape, who has experienced wood joints, who has made fiberglass experiments, who has made the beginnings of a wicker basket.... knows in his hands and in the mind much about what is needed to think beyond and invent special things. A product that could last today - next to all the things that can be bought quickly - that speaks to us in our time, is rooted in today and points beyond. It is the result of a desire to experiment and to cross personal boundaries; it plays with the barely feasible, with the inimitable. That's why it's so special to find one of these uniquenesses, to acquire it, to use it and to preserve it over time. Our fair sees itself as a mediator between artists and art lovers and makes current developments in this field visible. The Hanseatic City of Wismar, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located between Rostock and Schwerin, Hamburg and Berlin, and many visitors from all over the world come to the city in early autumn. We want to establish our new fair here and be another important beacon for the visibility of works in the applied arts.
