Reading and discussion
lorian Knöppler is always drawn to the North German countryside for his books. The author lives with his family on a farm in North Friesland, which is also the setting for his novel "Südfall".
Dave survives his plane being shot down over the North Frisian Wadden Sea and narrowly escapes drowning. The British soldier could wait out the end of the war in hiding, but he dares to flee from Husum along the coast to Denmark. Along the way, he meets a wide variety of people. There is the young, sensitive Paul, who demands toughness from himself, his aunt Anna, who decides to help Dave, and Cecilie, a dazzling yet withdrawn girl. On a boat on the Danish border, a plan emerges as to how Dave could make it to England.
