Vessel ceramics with smoke painting by MARITA HELBIG Unique textile pieces with experimental plant prints by SWAANTJE HOLTFOTH
MARITA HELBIG creates ceramics in black and white, but rust-red tones can also be created uncontrolled during firing or the surface can be given a reddish tint by deliberately applied materials. White is the result of the clay color used, black is brought to the vessel by the excess carbon. The ceramics are formed by hand, given a silky vessel skin by polishing, fired in an electric kiln and reduced in sawdust.
The floral motifs are formed on the clay in the form of a covering process and form the main component of the exhibited works. This process could also be called smoke painting.
SWAANTJE HOLTFOTH shows colorful and black and white works from small to large for various applications, e.g. in combination with light.
A special dyeing process enables textiles to be printed on both sides in a single operation. These prints are perfect for free-hanging or free-standing installations in the room.
The Kunstverein would like to thank the Ministry of Culture in MV, the district of Rostock and the town of Bad Doberan for their support.
