KMD Andreas Meisner, Altenburg Cathedral, organ
Andreas Meisner, born in 1959, studied Protestant church music at the Cologne University of Music. After his A examination in 1984, he continued his studies with Prof. Ludger Lohmann in Stuttgart, where he passed the "Künstlerische Reifeprüfung" in 1986, majoring in organ. Various master classes, including with Marie Claire Alain and Wolfgang Rübsam, complemented his training.
His repertoire on the organ includes works from all stylistic periods. He regularly plays concerts on historical baroque organs as well as on romantic and modern large instruments. There is a certain inclination towards German and French romanticism, post-romanticism and impressionism. He also specializes in transcriptions and Dutch/Belgian organ music.
Numerous CD recordings and an intensive concert activity with concerts in almost all European countries, Israel, Canada, New Zealand and the USA testify to Meisner's high level of musical competence.
In addition to teaching numerous organ students, he also taught choir conducting at the Cologne University of Music for a time.
Since 1985, Andreas Meisner has been the cathedral organist at Altenberg Cathedral, artistic director of the sacred cathedral music and a member of the International Altenberg Organ Academy. He was appointed church music director in 2006.
