Painting and graphics for the 95th birthday
On the occasion of his 95th birthday, Manfred Prinz (*1929), an emeritus university lecturer living in Greifswald, is showing a retrospective of unmistakable, colorful and increasingly expressive pictures from the beginnings of his painting in the 1970s, influenced by his teacher Herbert Wegehaupt (1905-1959), to the present day. The artist has trained, promoted and encouraged many generations of art students and postgraduates at the Caspar David Friedrich Institute at the University of Greifswald, not least as the long-standing chairman and honorary chairman of the Pomeranian Artists' Association. His paintings, mainly watercolors, are almost all works in front of nature, requiring a high degree of intensity, rapid working and concentration on the essentials. His conception of art could be interpreted as an interplay between a figurative sense of reality and the autonomous effect of artistic means. His motifs are mainly landscapes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern characterized by changing weather conditions and deeply felt travel impressions.
