Immerse yourself in the magic of a poet.

Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926) is one of the most important German-language poets. His sensitive, poetic imagery and magical power of language continue to fascinate every new generation to this day.

Rilke was a great "singer of love", full of longing for perfection and redemption. A comforter who takes us by the hand and carries us away to the source of all being. "You don't have to understand life, then it will be like a feast ...".

In this literary-musical program, actress Sibylle Kuhne recites famous poems such as "I love my life in growing rings" or "Everything is one".

Empathizing with Rilke's stirringly deep world of thought, the actress interprets the texts she has chosen with emotional intensity, without losing herself in sentiment. In this way, even verses that are not easy to understand can be experienced in their sometimes mystical imagery.

In the dramaturgically cleverly constructed program of poetry and prose, the audience learns something about the poet's roots, drives and visions. Rilke's origins, decisive formative influences and his own sense of mission have shaped this poet, who repeatedly touches the deepest levels of the inner self.

Between the texts, Sibylle Kuhne provides insights into Rilke's life story, opening up connections for the listener and shedding light on what they are hearing.

Musical accompaniment: Rafael Knappe - violoncello

The music corresponds to the respective mood of the poetry performed. Music and words "take the tone" from each other, which they carry on - like an alternating song, a dialog between two voices.

A program of great emotions that conveys an entire artistic epoch, in which Rilke stands in a row with Thomas Mann, Hermann Hesse and Friedrich Nietzsche.

Sibylle Kuhne - text selection, dramaturgy and artistic word

Press:
... she carefully doses in her ... exciting Rilke program ... legendary poems such as the one from the "Book of Hours", which sings of life in growing struggles. ... Her own lived life flows into her Rilke evening, for example with the "Song of the Widow", which Kuhne performs with gestural emphasis, but without any sentimental undertone. Or in the amazingly modern scene about "The Blind Woman". ...

The musicality of Rilke's verses, for example in "Die Stille" or "Einsamkeit", resonates throughout the evening in the atmospheric cello intermezzi by Natalia Kazakova, who selected works by her compatriots Tchaikovsky and Kirill Volkov - a homage to Rilke, whose poet's heart beat strongly for Russia.
