Compositions from Estonia
The Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the philharmonic halls of Cologne and St. Petersburg, the Flagey and the Bozar in Brussels as well as at many festivals - the Estonian Sinfonietta has performed in the most famous arenas of music. Guest performances have taken the ensemble on tours to Europe, South America and the Middle East as well as to many Estonian music festivals and concert series. In Greifswald, the 16-piece orchestra will present compositions of the 20th century from Estonia, including works by Arvo Pärt and Erkki-Sven Tüür.
The composition of the Estonian Sinfonietta depends on its repertoire. Therefore, the orchestra forms a flexible ensemble that is able to play a large part of the world's musical heritage from different eras, perform symphonic works and participate in opera projects.
The orchestra attaches great importance to presenting Estonian music. In addition to performances by guest soloists, it is a high priority for the Estonian Sinfonietta to give its own members the opportunity to perform as soloists. As the Estonian Sinfonietta is a relatively small orchestra with up to 45 members and many of them have been playing together for a long time, the ensemble often performs without a conductor. The ensemble has thus developed conductorless music-making into an important format alongside other forms of performance.
The main artistic responsibility of the Estonian Sinfonietta lies with the artistic advisory board. This organizational model is used by a handful of chamber orchestras around the world. The board is responsible for repertoire planning and artistic development as well as the selection of guest conductors and soloists. The Estonian Sinfonietta has adopted this model from the very beginning. The board consists of the orchestra's founder, chief executive Kaia Lattikas, the concertmaster and two musicians who have played in the Estonian Sinfonietta from the beginning, violinist Valeria Rjumina and percussionist Karl Johann Lattikas. Peeter Margus has been the orchestra's concertmaster since June 2023. Anna-Liisa Bezrodny and Rūta Lipinaitytė also perform as guest concertmasters.
