Botanical hike in the castle park
The Naturforschende Gesellschaft Mecklenburg e.V. (NGM) Ludwigslust cordially invites you to a botanical tour "Kleine Welt am Wegesrand" on July 16, 2024 in the Ludwigslust Castle Park. Due to the temporary closure of the palace gardens, we will mainly visit the area around Ludwigslust Palace and the basin. Here we will find in particular the plants of the pavement joints, which are adapted to the extreme conditions of sandy subsoil, longer dry periods and foot traffic, such as bare knapweed, red knapweed, lying mastwort or knotweed. A number of aquatic and riparian plants can be observed at the basin. In addition to the German and scientific names of the species, participants will learn about old folk names, general distribution and past and present uses, for example in homeopathy or medicine. For example, who still knows today that the hernia was once used as a diuretic and antispasmodic for bladder and kidney problems, as well as for hernias and as a cough remedy, or that the bird's knotweed was used to treat diarrhea due to its tannin content? The tour starts in the outdoor area of our volunteer-run museum, the "Natureum" near the castle, at 6 p.m. and lasts about an hour and a half. If you are interested, you can visit the exhibition and the special exhibition on Sternberg rock ("Sternberg Cake") in our "Natureum" after the tour.
