Ekkehard Wölk (p)
Ekkehard Wölk initially studied classical piano at the Lübeck Academy of Music and musicology at the University of Hamburg and the Humboldt University in Berlin. After master classes with John Taylor and Walter Norris, he visited the USA several times, gave concerts and workshops in New York and Massachusetts and continued to take lessons with Fred Hersch. As a composer and arranger, Wölk has won several prizes and composition scholarships
and has worked on various radio productions for Deutschlandradio Kultur, RBB and Bayerischer Rundfunk, among others. For the past twenty years, Ekkehard Wölk has also been increasingly in demand as a piano accompanist for countless live soundtracks to silent films. He has composed soundtracks for several classic German silent films for the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation. In addition to his diverse concert activities, Wölk has released seven of his own CD productions in Germany and Italy. He has also performed successfully with his own trio or larger ensemble at many well-known festivals in Germany and abroad, including the Leipzig Bach Festival, the UFA Film Nights in Berlin and Brussels and the New Delhi International Jazz Festival.
