Effervescent joy of playing, magical dialog, homogeneous interplay and instrumental perfection are terms that are often heard about the Trio con Brio Copenhagen, one of a small number of piano trios performing worldwide. In 2024, the ensemble celebrated its 25th anniversary on stage. It is one of the best in the world.
The ensemble was founded in 1999 as Trio con Brio at the Vienna Academy of Music. The three artists then studied in Cologne with the Alban Berg Quartet, Frans Helmerson, Mihaela Martin and Harald Schoneweg and with Ferenc Rados in Budapest. After winning the ARD Competition in Munich in 2002 and the Premio Vittorio Gui in Florence in 2003, the ensemble quickly established itself on the European concert stage. In 2005, the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Piano Trio Award enabled Trio con Brio Copenhagen to make its breakthrough in the USA. The highly endowed "Carl Nielsen Award 2019" ennobled the ensemble as Denmark's cultural ambassador.
The trio is a guest of the most famous concert series and halls in Europe, America and Asia. The trio has performed at Carnegie Hall New York, Lincoln Center New York, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Pierre-Boulez-Saal in Berlin and now also at Villa Papendorf.
The ensemble's CD recordings are released exclusively by Orchid Classics. The complete recording of the Beethoven trios was followed by the two trios by Shostakovich and the one by Arensky. This recording received the German Record Critics' Award. 2022 saw the release of Bent Sørensen's Triple Concerto with the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Jukka-Pekka Saraste. In February 2024, the album "The Passenger" with trios by Mieczyslaw Weinberg and Franz Schubert was released. Soo-Jin Hong plays a violin by Guarneri and Soo-Kyung Hong a cello by Grancino.
