Hanne Kah as a band was founded in 2009. Hanne Kah played at the Inselleuchten Festival, Marienwerder together with Axel Prahl, Judith Holofernes and Marla Glen, the Siebenklang Festival Bernau with Elaiza and at Jazztime Hildesheim. In 2014, they performed as part of hr3 @ night as the opening act for Andreas Bourani. This was followed by appearances on television and radio in 2016 and 2017, such as interviews on SWR Landesschau RLP, SWR Kaffee oder Tee and SWR 1. They also performed on stage with Austrian Rainhard Fendrich in 2017.[7]
2017 also saw the band embark on their first tour of Western Canada, where they performed at the Vancouver Island Folk Festival and renowned clubs such as Guilt & Company Vancouver and the Needle Vinyl Tavern Edmonton. Their second tour of Canada followed in 2019. In January 2020, they toured Australia for their official endorser Cole Clark Guitars and played festivals such as the Illawarra Folk Festival.[8][9]
Hanne Kah also joined Hollywood composer James Newton Howard as a soloist on stage at the Jahrhunderthalle Frankfurt in late 2017 for his European tour finale, performing the song The Hanging Tree from the film The Tributes of Panem - Mockingjay Part 1 with him and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. She sang the part that was originally sung by Jennifer Lawrence.
The single Greta, presented on February 15, 2019, is dedicated to the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.[10] The song was then released on the band's second studio album in May 2019. The album is entitled Y, which is a play on words referring to the English question word Why and Generation Y.[11]
