by Friedrich Schiller
"I fear nothing - nothing - but the limits of your love."
Two worlds, one love: the bourgeois musician's daughter Luise Miller loves the aristocratic Ferdinand von Walter. But because what must not be must not be, the young lovers become the pawns of the powerful in what is probably the most famous bourgeois tragedy of the Sturm und Drang period. The president, Ferdinand's father, initially tries to stop the relationship with fatherly authority. When this fails, a perfidious intrigue is intended to destroy their love from within. The plan takes effect - with disastrous consequences. It is only a short distance from the claim to unconditional love to unbridled jealousy. And so Ferdinand, driven by mistrust and desperate rage, blind to the truth, becomes a murderer. With Hauptmann's Die Ratten, the actress Steffi Kühnert, known from theater, film and television, made her highly acclaimed directorial debut at the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater in 2017. This was followed the following year by the successful stage adaptation of Lubitsch's classic film Sein oder Nichtsein in the Großes Haus. In October 2022, Steffi Kühnert will open the new M*Halle venue in the former SVZ printing works with Schiller.
