The secret of Hohenzieritz Castle: Friederike Werner presents new book
The well-known art historian Dr. Friederike Werner will be presenting her latest work "The 'Egyptian' Secret or: The Veiled Temples of Hohenzieritz and Berlin 1795/1850" in Neustrelitz on 23 and 24 May. She has taken a close look at the previously unexplored "Egyptian Hall" from 1795 as the centerpiece of the palace and garden in Hohenzieritz . In her book, she approaches the secret of Duke Carl II of Mecklenburg-Strelitzand describes how the Prussian "Egyptomania" started there with Queen Luise as the mediator: A surprising, astonishing and extraordinaryart story with gods, rulers and scholars.
On Thursday, May 23, at 7 p.m. , Friederike Werner will give a lecture at the Schlossgarten Hotel in Neustrelitz at the invitation of the Residenzschlossverein Neustrelitz and the Neubrandenburg Dreikönigsverein.
Admission to the event is free. A donation for the benefit of the Residenzschlossverein is requested.
On Friday, May 24, at 6 p.m., Friederike Werner accepts the invitation of the St. John's Lodge Georg zur wahren Treue, which was founded in Neustrelitz in 1846.
Her book about Hohenzieritz, the actual background to the "cult" surrounding Queen Luise and the veneration of Egyptian history in the 18th and 19th centuries is being published by VDG Verlag Weimar, as was her book "Ägyptomanie in Preußen" in 2016. It is richly illustrated, including historical photographs of the extraordinary "Egyptian Hall" at Hohenzieritz Castle, whose artistic decoration has been lost apart from a few sections. The book brings an important aspect of Mecklenburg history - with implications for Berlin - to light for the first time.
Friederike Werner is known to millions of viewers in Germany as an art expert for the show "Bares für Rares". She has been part of Horst Lichter's team since 2019.
