A very special journey through the diverse landscape of political humor in the entire Eastern Bloc from the end of the war to the fall of the Berlin Wall.
From Leipzig to Moscow, from Krakow to Bucharest: political jokes are omnipresent in the decades of the Cold War, they satirize and make fun of a reality that is difficult to influence. Those in power feared opposition and open criticism from the public, they feared laughter as a subversive, anarchic force. Bernd-Lutz Lange takes us on a very special journey through the individual people's democracies and accompanies us through the diverse landscape of political humor. He not only reflects on his own experiences, but also allows numerous eyewitnesses to have their say, painting a colorful picture of the humor of the time.
Bernd-Lutz Lange, born in 1944, grew up in Zwickau. He was a founding member of the "academixer" cabaret in 1966, performed as a duo with Gunter Böhnke from 1988 to 2004 and with singer and cabaret artist Katrin Weber until 2014. Bernd-Lutz Lange has now published around a dozen books.
