Claudio Bohórquez
The German-born cellist of Peruvian-Uruguayan descent is one of the most sought-after musicians in his field. As a pupil of Boris Pergamenschikow, Claudio Bohórquez was successful early on in international competitions such as the Tchaikovsky Youth Competition in Moscow and the Rostropovich Competition in Paris. He also won first prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva at a very young age in 1995, which marked the beginning of his career as a soloist. This culminated in 2000 with an award at the Kronberg Academy International Pablo Casals Competition, which was held for the first time.
Claudio Bohórquez has performed with almost all German radio orchestras, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, among others. In Japan, he has performed with the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. In the USA, he recently gave concerts with the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Among the renowned conductors he has worked with are Daniel Barenboim, Christoph Eschenbach, Manfred Honeck, Sir Neville Marriner, Eiji Oue, Krzysztof Penderecki, Leonard Slatkin, Tugan Sokhiev, Lothar Zagrosek and David Zinnan.
Oscar Bohórquez
"Oscar Bohórquez is one of the most promising young violinists ... his outstanding technique, his musical depth and his charisma are extraordinary." This is how Christoph Eschenbach described the young German violinist of Latin American descent.
In September 2009, Oscar Bohórquez celebrated his debut as a soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In Germany, Oscar Bohórquez has performed at venues including the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Berlin Philharmonie. Bohórquez has performed worldwide in Europe, Latin America, the USA and China under renowned conductors such as Sebastian Weigle, Alexander Shelley, Nicolas Pasquet, Miguel Harth Bedoya and Carlos Miguel Prieto and has given concerts at the Kronberg Chamber Music Festival, the Musica em Trancoso Festival in Brazil and the Salon de Provence Chamber Music Festival in France, among others. Bohórquez forms the Patagonia Express Trio with his brother, cellist Claudio Bohórquez, and pianist Gustavo Beytelmann. In 2021, the trio recorded a new album (Piazzolla: Patagonia Express) with works by Astor Piazzolla to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth. Bohórquez also recorded a solo album with Bach's violin sonatas and the 24 Paganini Caprices. His recordings have been broadcast on WDR, Deutschland Funk Kultur, RBB, Radio Stephansdom (Vienna), Radio France, Radio Nacional España, Bulgarian National Radio and Television in Sofia, among others. In 2020, SWR produced a music podcast about Bohórquez's musical career.
Oscar Bohórquez completed his violin studies with Aaron Rosand at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia (1998-2002) and with Günter Pichler, the primarius of the Alban Berg Quartet, at the University of Music in Vienna (2002-2008). He performs on a violin by Guarneri del Gesù from 1729.
