Chamber opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Neustrelitz Palace Gardens
Composed by Mozart in 1768 when he was only 12 years old, the opera tells the story of Bastienne, a shepherdess who fears for her lover Bastien. Desperate, she turns to the sorcerer Colas, who wants to use his magical powers to help her win Bastien back. Colas tricks Bastienne into making Bastien jealous by acting dismissive. Things go badly wrong. How will the two lovers end up together after all? You can find out on a balmy summer evening in Neustrelitz Castle Gardens. Similar to the successful "Shakespeare in the Park", "Bastien and Bastienne" is an entertaining singspiel performance to stroll along to. Expect to see the vocal ensemble at different venues, just like in Mozart's time in the Baroque garden. A first performance in 1768 in the garden of Dr. Anton Mesmer's house is now considered a legend, but can become reality with you in 2024 in the imaginative surroundings of our Neustrelitz garden!
