On the edge of a volcano, he looks at fiery red magma bubbling at the heart of the earth, reminiscent of our planet in its primeval state. On a dive off the coast of Tasmania, he uses sea plants to bring ashore a tiny creature that even caused a sensation in space. On Greenland, he is taken to a library that does not store books, but ice cores that show what the weather was like 50,000 years ago. The crystal structures reveal how the climate has developed - and the air bubbles show how pollution has increased over the last 100 years.
