The special movie
70-year-old Mahin has been living alone in Tehran since the death of her husband and the departure of her daughter to Europe. An afternoon tea with friends provides the impetus to give up her solitary pursuits and rekindle her love life. Mahin opens her heart to a new love. A spontaneous encounter turns into a surprising, unforgettable evening.
A fast-paced love story, told in an extremely charming and funny way. But what seems so light and positive in the movie was highly risky for the film team - and overshadowed by the events in the country. Shortly after filming began, Jina Mahsa Amini died after being arrested by the vice squad. Her death triggered furious protests, which were brutally repressed by the regime. It also became increasingly dangerous for the film crew. Nevertheless, they continued filming in secret.
"We were sad, angry, shocked - and at first we didn't know what to do next," reports Sanaeeha. "But then we sat down together and reminded each other that we were making a film that dealt with the same issues as the protests: a film about women, life and freedom. So we decided that it was our duty as filmmakers to finish the film." (Das ERSTE)
