The largest annual traditional sailors' meeting in the world will take place from August 10 to 13, 2023 - a modern spectacle that celebrates maritime traditions.
Get on the ship and into the adventure: Just sail along is the motto of the Hanse Sail Rostock, because here everybody can go on board of a ship and experience how the sailors conquered the seas in former times. They are the stars of the Hanse Sail and will be represented in large numbers this year: the traditional ships, which are maintained by associations, companies or private persons. Also tall ships are heading for Rostock's quaysides.
The ships can also be admired on the Warnow, in the sea canal and on the Baltic Sea during a stroll along the quay edge or from the fine sandy beach. At the city harbor, there will again be a variety of events from the slipway to the Ludewig Basin. Whether concerts, swing dance classes, silent disco, amusement rides or international culinary delights: in the Pirate Village, on the Blue Light Mile or in the Engine Room, children, families and adults alike will be able to sing, dance and enjoy themselves. Also the fishing port, IGA Park, the seaside resort Warnemünde and the open naval base Hohe Düne invite to stay and actively experience.
The Hanse Sail Rostock is the largest annual traditional sailors' meeting worldwide. Since 1991 the maritime folk festival takes place every year on the second weekend in August. Numerous participating ships together with cruise liners, ferries and ships of the navy offer a lively maritime world exhibition. A moving experience for visitors and companies is to experience traditional seafaring up close as a fellow sailor on one of the ships. On land, there is a hustle and bustle with market stalls, passenger rides and a good dozen stages. In addition, forums, conferences, exhibitions and sporting competitions accompany the event. Annually the Hanse Sail Rostock counts about one million visitors.
