Selected works from the Baltic Sea region as well as works of East German art after 1945 will go under the hammer at this year's edition of the Pomeranian Art Auction.
From the wide range of works on display, which includes paintings, graphic art, leaded Tiffany Art pictures, sculptures, assemblages and textiles, some top-class pieces stand out in particular:
An almost 8 m² tapestry from 1983 comes from the Halle Textile Manufactory at Burg Giebichenstein. The design by Usedom artist Susanne Kandt-Horn (1914 - 1996), based on the painting "One day people will live like brothers", was realized here to the highest standards and perfection. Of the approximately 150 tapestries produced between 1966 and 1989, mostly for representative purposes for public spaces, the one on offer is undoubtedly one of the most successful and impressive. -
Konrad Adolf Lattner (1896 - 1979) is increasingly regarded as an outstanding representative of New Objectivity and, following an exhibition at the Nationalgalerie in 2016/2017, is also considered a Surrealist Objectivity artist. From 1937, he was classified as a degenerate artist, his works were confiscated, some were destroyed and disappeared from public collections. The painting "Maskerade" from 1941 offered in the auction is one of the very rare examples of this creative period. -
Paintings by Walter Womacka created on study trips occupy an important place in the artist's oeuvre and were in no small part responsible for his popularity, as they brought a little color into the grey everyday life of the GDR through the exoticism on display.
