Jungle redwoods

With 800 ha, the Osterwald is the largest contiguous forest area on the Zingst peninsula. In this forest area, which is located between the village of Zingst and the Sundische Wiesen, six primeval redwood trees were planted in the 1955s. A younger seventh tree was planted later and completed row. These trees are considered living fossils among conifers and were originally planted in the Osterwald for research purposes. In the meantime, the trees have reached a stately height and are an attraction in the Osterwald.

    Pilgrimage church in Bodstedt

    • Dankwardtstr., 18356 Bodstedt

The former pilgrimage church of St. Ewald in Bodstedt is a simple brick building with a polygonal east end and another bay added to the west in 1786. On the north side there is a small chapel annex. This chapel was the destination of pilgrimages to St. Ewald in the 15th century. From the medieval furnishings, besides the nine-cornered baptismal fountain made of granite, the filigree mural painting on the north side has been preserved. A panel painting depicting the baptism of Jesus Christ dates from the middle of the 16th century.
