Kaninchenwerder Schwerin Lake jetty with city skyline, © TVMSN

The enchanted nature reserve island with an observation tower, nature trail and lots of forest is located in the southern part of Schwerin's inner lake. The quiet island is something for nature lovers and can only be reached by boat (Weisse Flotte or Inselwirt)

Impressive features of the 0.37 km² island are the unique nature, the tranquility and the wonderful view of the city of Schwerin and the lake landscape from the observation tower. Since 1935, the island of Kaninchenwerder, which was first mentioned in a document in 1407, has been protected as a nature reserve. In addition, there are hiking trails, a nature adventure trail and beach, as well as some play and sports equipment. With your own tent, you can spend the night a few meters from the shore.

How to get there: Visitors interested in nature can reach the island with a boat of the White Fleet from Zippendorf and Schloss from May to September. During this time, private pleasure boats can also dock in the harbor area. A mooring zone for boats is buoyed on the west side of the island. Crossings and events for small groups are also offered by the Kopplin boat driving school.

Note: Unfortunately, it is not permitted to enter the neighboring island of Ziegelwerder. The small harbor of the island may be entered by water sports enthusiasts in case of emergency.
