Grimmen's Museum of Local History is located in the miller's gate of the city.
The Mill Gate is one of the three preserved medieval city gates. The late Gothic building was originally an important part of the city’s fortification, which was built around 1320. The name is due to the watermill (1373), which stood until about 1830 out of town in front of the gate. In the year 1985, the foundation stone was laid at the Mühlentor for a new building in the form of a Wiekhaus. The result was a museum complex, for which the old city gate was expanded and connected to the new building. Since the opening in 1987 for the 700th anniversary of the city, guests can get an idea of the city's history in the museum of local history. Exhibitions are held on two floors in the city gate - Household goods from the 19th / 20th century, artisanal collection, graphic and painting collection, fossils and mineral collection and a collection on the early history of the region.
