The conservatory is the oldest music school in Schwerin. It was founded in 1953 and today combines tradition and innovation. At the conservatory, people of (almost) all ages can choose between over 30 different instruments, singing and composition. In addition, the state-approved music school holds various ensembles, early music education and dance courses, as well as special offers for people with disabilities and the highly gifted.

The Conservatory - the municipal music school of the state capital - is a member of the Association of German Music Schools and the Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland e.V. association and is supported by the Parents' Association and the Sponsors' Association. With great commitment, the teachers teach their students the fun of learning and the joy of music. And they do this with great success. Performances of the musical "Tabaluga" or the opera "Brundibár", regular participation in national and international competitions, conservatory festivals, musical framings of all kinds, meetings with students of other music schools from Germany and abroad are part of the lively everyday life of the music school.

The Conservatory is constantly developing interesting new teaching programs. In recent years, these have included the incorporation of computer technology in jazz/rock/pop, KONFLEX- the offer for busy people, Musikgarten for the youngest, musical education, lessons for migrants, also in Russian on request, and musical theater. "Youngest child is the class lessons in general education schools and harpsichord correpetition.
